Managing Partner
Before founding The Away Company, Josh worked in the film and media industry, managing projects ranging from Hollywood blockbuster movies to stadium concert tours. Prior to that, he was a digital nomad and web developer, where he first began to pursue his love for travel. The Away Company was birthed from the exciting and unforgettable travel experiences he’s had, and as his network of celebrities and VIPs grew in the entertainment world, he began sharing his passion and expertise by designing tailor-made trips and arranging travel logistics for his friends, clients, and companies
Shepherd Chou
Managing Partner
Grew up in Asia, Shepherd moved to the US when he was a teenager and has worked in some of the most prominent start-ups and tech companies in the world. Passionate about the human condition and storytelling, he began to document his travels to hard-to-reach places and hidden gems of the world and share them amongst his circle of CEOs, VCs, artists and explorers at the behest of Joshua. with his experiences in entrepreneurship and lifestyle design, Shepherd co-founded The Away Company to help create connections and expand horizons of fellow seekers and adventurers.
Kevin Footer
Director - Business Development
Originally from California, Kevin moved to Buenos Aires in 1992 to begin the spiritual practice of tango. For many years he was a columnist for the Buenos Aires Herald, and author of the book “A Tango before I Die” (2013). Playing harmonica, Kevin tours the world with the Blue Tango Project alongside Argentine Latin Grammy-nominee María Volonté, and together they host some of the most in-demand Airbnb experiences in the world with over 1,500 5-star reviews. He met Joshua and Shepherd during their visit to Argentina in 2017 and the trio hit it off immediately, sparking an impromptu months-long adventure through South America.
Izabela Amari
Director - Customer Experience & Design
By the time she was 15, Izabela had lived on five continents as her family business demanded and later their status as refugees. She has since earned her B.A. in communications and political science from the University of Toronto. Her love for experiencing new cultures, new languages, new ideas, uniting people and cultivating tolerance has motivated her to craft unique itineraries as a travel advisor, consultant, or content creator in some of the top traveling agencies and concierges in the industry. She joined The Away Company to focus her expertise on designing luxury boutique experiences for discerning travelers.
Cat
Manager - Employee Relations & Fury
The famous (or infamous) nameless cat that accompanied Shepherd on much of his travels. She can often be seen lounging around the office or on Zoom calls in whoever is speaking's lap. Started her life as a stray, she invited herself into Shepherd’s apartment after he fed her a can of tuna, and the two have been inseparable since. In addition to her duties of setting up employee bonding experiences through face rubs and back scratches, and occasionally baring teeth and claws to tell everyone to get back to work, She also inspires The Away Company team to focus on the issue of sustainability with her constant judging gaze
